Getting Involved

Getting involved is easy; staying involved is the commitment needed to make Up On Your Luck a success story for you and for our veterans.

We are seeking  in-kind donations, as well as donations of time and talent,  to help our program grow and respond to the needs of our homeless and disabled veterans.

Internships

Up On Your Luck strives to work with universities to place interns into appropriate positions in order to give them the greatest opportunity to fulfill their field placement requirements. There are internship opportunities available in four areas of the agency: Live-In Care; Education; Family Services; and Community Affairs.

After a brief orientation and background clearances, an intern will be able to assist in cases and gain knowledge of the Social Services field.

We have a continuum of care ranging from in-home intervention to residential treatment. Interns would have the ability to gain experience in many of these areas. Such areas include: Assessment, Case Management, Family and Individual Counseling, Crisis Intervention, Family Violence, Support Groups, Networking, and much more. Interns would also be eligible to participate in any of our agency-sponsored training opportunities while they are interning at the agency.

Students interested in obtaining an internship (unpaid) should submit an updated resumé along with a cover letter. This letter should include the following:

  • The school requirements for the internship
  • The type of supervision that would be required
  • The number of hours required for the internship

We have openings for interns in the following programs to work with our homeless and disabled veterans.

Volunteering

Up On Your Luck volunteer opportunities include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Mentoring
  • Tutoring
  • Administrative / Office Support
  • Fund Raising / Special Events Support
  • Maintenance Support
  • Collecting / Providing In-Kind Items for:
back-to-school, birthdays, extra-curricular activities, food drives, holidays and more.
  • Teaching Special Skills, such as: arts and crafts, cooking, gardening, music education, sports and more.

We hope you find a project/activity that is of particular interest to you as you help us make a difference in the lives of the veterans and their families in our community. Whenever possible, we will accommodate your specific area of interest and schedule.
